annual greeting from Chris
Dear family and friends, Whew! What a year! I still remembered flipping through my calendar and say oh gee, we still have more than a year until graduation. And now, only 4 months left! 4 months! We can’t tell you how excited we are to graduate together! Where should I start…Let’s start at the beginning. I finally became a U.S. permanent resident this year on February 14th (what a day to have something great happen!). It wasn’t an easy process but after we sent in all the papers, the whole thing went along relatively fast. We believed that Heavenly Father helped us all along to get through all that. So now, I have a really fancy I.D; it’s a really cool card, I’ve been showing people the card just to get oos and ahs! (Well, we paid a substantial amount of money for it so I guess it’d better be something cool, huh!) I also got a job earlier this year at a local language school. It was fine at the first but it turned into one of the biggest disasters ever! The company had (and is still having) many problems. It was a trial of both Greg’s and my faith because it was really difficult for us to forget/forgive some of the things and people in the company after it was all over. At this point, there is no need to recount what exactly happened because the more important thing is we both grew to become much stronger people spiritually- and that is what really matters to us. Around the middle of this year, Greg got an opportunity to be involved in something that he is very much passionate for- making films!! At work, Greg has this friend, who started a company with another friend of his in making ESL (English as Second Language) short movies to help people learn English. Greg was delighted that he could do something that he loves so much, and I’m so happy for him. They are all wonderful and intelligent people and Greg loves working with them. Greg has been filming here and there during the weekends. Because of this opportunity, Greg is considering postponing graduate school for a year, working for the company. We hope that everything will work out for the company. About one month and half ago, something really wonderful and miraculous happened to us. I had been looking for some other financial aid besides the half Pell grand I have. The half Pell only covered half of the tuition, for this semester, we had to use Greg’s half, putting into my account, so we could pay for my tuition. And, I went into the Multicultural student office at campus, hoping that someone would be able to help me. I met a counselor and she told me that it seemed the only way to get funding at that point was to apply for the academic scholarship (which was impossibly hard to get…), and she would petition for me because the deadline had already due. I walked out and thought there was no way I would be qualified for the academic scholarship. So, I didn’t put much thought into it and I didn’t apply for it either. However, weeks past, I got this phone call from my counselor, saying that she had good news for me regarding funding. I was surprised but I didn’t have high expectation. My original thought was I probably was given a couple hundred dollars, which I thought would at least help paying for the textbooks. However, I walked into the office and sat down with my counselor, she handed me this letter and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing- it was a letter, saying that I had just been granted scholarships for both fall and winter semester, for total amount of $3620. And because we had already paid for the fall semester tuition, she told me that I could use that portion of the scholarship for any educational purposes. My tears started rolling down my face. I told her that two and half years ago, I was thinking dropping out of school because we didn’t have the money to pay for the tuition. And now, I have literally more than enough money for me to graduate in April. I called Greg right after I got off the office, and I cried like a baby on the phone. Words cannot express our gratitude enough- we’ve been blessed so much. We both believed firmly that the Lord has been watching over us and He is aware of our needs. By April, in my entire college years, 90% of the tuition and fees are and will be paid through scholarships, awards, and grants- our hears are full of thanks for Heavenly Father and all the kind people who helped and donated money to the scholarship committee. Without those giving individuals, I would not make it to graduation. Two days ago, we celebrated our 3rd year wedding anniversary! YEH! We made it thus far! ☺ Now, we’re looking forward for April to come. We’re excited that we can end one chapter of our lives and start another new one. We plan on moving to a new apartment (we hope we can find a place around Provo and Orem). We also hope to plan a trip back to Taiwan to visit my family and friends. We haven’t been back since our honeymoon three years ago so we both would love to go back after graduation, and spend time with family and friends (and of course, eating tons yummy food!) As the end is coming close for this year, both Greg and I just want to tell you all how much we appreciate your love and support. We value you all very much. We are also so grateful for all the blessings we’ve been given this year; we know that the Lord has answered our prayers. We love you and wish you all a merry Christmas, a happy new year and a good year to come! love, Greg & Chris
